Annual Spring Programme of FREE Garden Talks at Kilkenny Castle @ Kilkenny Castle | Kilkenny | County Kilkenny | Ireland

OPW Kilkenny Castle is delighted to present the annual FREE Garden Talks Series as part of our 50th anniversary celebrations of Kilkenny Castle in state care.

Tuesday 26 March at 8pm – Neil Porteus, curator of the famed Mount Stewart garden and star of Radio 4’s Gardener’s Question Time will kick off the series with the fascinating story of the world famous County Down garden as created by the impressive Edith, Lady Londonderry in the 1920s.

Tuesday 2 April at 8pm – Seamus O’Brien, renowned plant hunter and curator of the National Botanic Gardens at Kilmacurragh in Wicklow, will talk about his latest book ‘In the Footsteps of Joseph Dalton Hooker: – A Sikkim Adventure’. Seamus is one of the most talented gardeners, plant experts and horticultural writers we have.

Tuesday 9 April at 8pm – Klaus Laitenberger, organic expert, will share the secrets of great vegetable growing. Klaus was and continues to be one of the greatest champions of sustainable, responsible and organic growing in Ireland. This is a must for any vegetable gardeners.

Tuesday 16 April at 8pm –  TJ Maher, artist and gardener, will bring us through a year in his beautiful, small country garden ‘Patthana’, in County Wicklow. TJ is fast becoming one of the best known organic gardeners in Ireland.

Tuesday 30 April at 7:15pm – Assumpta Broomfield and Paul Cutler, the highly regarded gardeners, will present a double-handed celebration of the work of plantswoman and creator of Altamont gardens in Carlow, Corona North. Assumpta is a gardener of undoubted talent and Paul is Head Gardener at the wonderful Altamont gardens for many years.

Tuesday 7 April at 7:15pm – Colm Mangan, Park Foreman, at Kilkenny Castle will finish the season with another of his popular, practical and informative workshops on the subject of ‘The Trees of Kilkenny Castle’ Colm’s talks are always a highlight of the Gardening Talks series. His ongoing campaign to enhance public knowledge of the wonderful Castle Park marches on!

Doors open 30 minutes before each talk. All are most welcome with entry on a first come first served basis.
